Yes - we are currently welcoming new players.
Yes - but because there are something like 8 courts at some of the leisure centres we use, it's better if we know to look out for new players and meet them in the reception area. On a Wednesday evening you can usually just walk through to the courts (straight on through the double doors in reception) and say hello.
When do you play? A typical week, early 2013: Monday night at Chilwell Olympia Leisure Centre; Wednesday evening in Beeston 8.00pm - 9.30pm. Thursday / Friday evening if there is enough demand.
How much is it? See below - typically only £3 or £4 per player per session. Most sessions are just 'turn up and play' but please read about our membership fee below.
Is there a joining or membership fee? Yes. However, new players don't have to pay this straight away (see below).
Do I need my own racket? Yes - although if you can't get hold of one let us know in advance because many of our members have spares they can probably bring along for you to borrow.
What about shuttle cocks, nets? We provide the shuttles, the venues we hire provide the nets.
If I am a beginner, does it matter? No - everyone is welcome, but please contact us if you've never played badminton before so that we can try to ensure there will be other newcomers on the night you've chosen to attend.
There will be a joining fee of £15 per player when you first join, included in this price will be all of the club's administration costs and a free Beeston.biz t-shirt. This amount is payable on your second visit to the club. All players are now also asked to fill out a form with Emergency Contact Details, which will of course be kept confidential.
We invite you to join in with friendly 'round robin' style badminton games - on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursday evenings each week (exact court booking times may vary, other evenings can be arranged if there is demand). We usually play badminton on 1, 2 or 3 courts, for up to 2 hours.
Whilst games are competitive (we manage to keep track of the score, almost always anyway!) the idea is to have a good laugh for an hour or two, and get fit at the same time.
Spring 2013 - Latest News!! During a typical week we are now playing badminton sometimes on Monday evenings and always on Wednesday evenings. Occasionally, also on a Thursday evening or a Sunday afternoon - with almost 30 regular players, roughly half ladies and half gents (age group: 18-50 years old). A typical session has between 6 and 14 players at the moment.
Wednesday Club News Update: Badminton Courts Booked at the Pearson Centre in Beeston every Wednesday evening.
This 'block booking' is from 8.00pm - 9.30pm and most players have a quick drink afterwards in the Commercial Inn next door or just around the corner at the Wetherspoons Pub
(called 'The Last Post', in Beeston Town Centre).
Here is a - map link - for the Pearson Centre, which is on Nuart Road (the entrance to Nuart Road is opposite the entrance to Sainsbury's supermarket in the centre of Beeston).
Our badminton sessions are first and foremost sociable - on my first night I met and spoke to three or four different players all from different age groups and backgrounds whilst awaiting my next game on court. If you are a bit more of a serious player or are looking for a competitive badminton club / league to join, please contact us anyway because we may be able to provide you with some useful contact details.
Just turn up on a Wednesday at the Pearson Centre - or for further details please contact us - - everyone is welcome, regardless of ability, sex or age group. Evening sessions are very popular at this time of year, so contact us now and join in before we have to introduce a waiting list!
We also book courts at local leisure centres on other evenings, depending on the demand. Please let us know if you would like to do this at least 7 days in advance, because the council owned leisure facilities we use are in high demand and it is difficult to find a court that is available. There are always lifts and car shares available if you need transport.
Contact us now to say when you're available, we look forward to hearing from you. We usually play for 1 or 2 hours, sometime between 6.30pm and 10.30pm. The more interest we have the better, so that we can organise plenty of 'on-court time' for everyone. Cost per session is typically only £3 or £4 per player (an average cost of 2 pounds per player per hour is typical).
Please contact us - - for more details about our latest badminton court booking times and dates (and remember to tell us which evenings of the week you are likely to be available).
By popular demand we now have ladies or mens white 'Cooltex' T Shirts available, although you don't have to have one if you prefer your own kit.
The cost per shirt is:
Beeston.biz Badminton Club will be contributing the remaining £10 per garment and Sue has kindly arranged for the design and creation of the embroidered logo to be provided free of charge.
Please order your shirt from either Sue or Mark at your next session. Players do not have to buy a T-shirt and we continue to welcome all newcomers to our club, completely free of any membership charges or joining fees.
