The long-established Beeston and Chilwell Book Club now has two groups, and receives dozens of enquiries every month from people wanting to join a reading group. Contact them either through their
website:
www.beeston-bookclub.org.uk - or contact Gillian on 0115 922 8816 (evenings or weekends).
Gillian says:
'Both groups try to notify book choices around 2 months in advance, so when we manage to achieve that, it means that if a member read every alternate book they'd have 8 weeks to read a book and only
have 5 or 6 to read each year!
Book choices are diverse, reflecting the various different interests within each group, and sometimes we get 'duds' (such as the first one I ever chose!) but usually we find that having a 'dodgy
book' is in itself is a good discussion point! More often than not some people will love a book and others will hate it, so discussions commence quite easily. And of course there is no commitment on
members' behalf to read every book - if members simply can't face one they sometimes just don't bother trying. We believe that if the group begins to feel like school, having to do homework, it isn't
working!'
Sunita Says: The next book we are reading is the Tenent of Wildfell Hall.
