Anyone for golf? With members from all over Nottinghamshire (and other parts of the UK) we are an informal golf 'society' and meet regularly - at least once per week - throughout the year to play golf.
Some of us are better at playing golf than others, but we always have a great laugh and enjoy a good walk and some fresh air, which is what it's all about! Why not join in? Sometimes we play nine holes on a course suitable for beginners, sometimes we go somewhere a little more challenging - but we've helped complete novices around those golf courses as well, so don't think that your ability (or lack of it!) will be an issue at all. We'll even lend you some clubs and have a stock of more than 100 golf balls for you to lose!

At the moment we are playing golf on a Thursday evening and on a Saturday morning or afternoon - often on other days as well. The newest members of our group are a van driver from the Mapperley area and a professional female from Mansfield and the age range of our golfers is from 19 to 64! This really is a diverse, friendly and relaxed group - sometimes we just go to the driving range and then have a quick pint afterwards. Please get in touch if you'd like to meet up -

Editor's note about playing golf at Beeston Fields Golf Club:
I enjoyed a round of golf at Beeston Fields in summer 2008. The course was in imaculate condition and as a beginner/intermediate standard player, I found the different cuts/lengths of the grass in various places just off the fairways and greens particularly challenging. However, when I was accurate I found the greens very receptive to a good approach shot and I was able to score well on the holes that I kept my shots straight! I was lucky enough to play on an 'Open Day' and found the members to be friendly and welcoming.

One of my friends is a member at Chilwell Manor so I have enjoyed a few rounds of golf with him at a discounted rate of about £15 pounds. As expected of a long established and well regarded golf course, I found that the bunkers and trees (the main hazards), together with ditches and boundary posts, were well placed and designed to catch the less experienced player out! However, I was able to score one of my best ever scores at Chilwell Manor after I learned to avoid some of the pitfalls, and I will be back to see if I can break the magic 100 mark!
